Testing the water in Goose Creek

July 30, 2007 by Joanna · Leave a Comment

Two or three days ago, Mike Keely spotted a boat marked “Survey” near his property on Goose Creek. Further investigation revealed the gentlemen on board were from Suffolk County and told him they were testing the water quality as part of an application for dredging. Does this imply progress is being made on the situation? Can anybody else throw some light on this development?

This was being done at the request of the County for information required for the Essential Fish Habitat report. The EFH requires water and sediment sampling in the area to be dredged, and in the areas both inside the creek entrance and outside the creek entrance. The EFH is required by National Marine Fisheries as a part of the Army Corp permit process.
