Just read LWRP for Dummies again. I missed the question about the TV program the first time I read it. In fact, the trustees have been making a documentary, organized by Peg Dickerson, that will address some of the issues about regulatory requirements. It has been filmed and is in the process of editing. The Trustees hope to have our first viewing in the next couple of weeks. I'll let you all know when it's ready.

Tom,
Thanks for your feedback. We've just posted (today) a new section of the website called the "The Soap Box", to which questions can be posted for answers, as well your opinions on any issue. This is not (yet) a knowledge base, but when we can afford the kind of resources you (and we) have in mind, we'll be happy to oblige. Feel free to post details of your ideas or contact us offlist to discuss possibilities.

Doug, concerning your question:
"DO WE HAVE SOUTHOLD RESIDENTS, MEMBERS OF SV, INTERESTED in attending a seminar? "

If people are grasping the gravity of the situation, I would believe the answer has to be a resounding YES. It is, as you have stated, a matter of getting the message out.

In parallel with this we need to think of ways to setup access to a knowledge base to which questions (from laymen like me) can be posted to for answers.

Tom, thank you for comments, SV and its Board Members are looking into sponsoring a spring seminar on similar questions and confusions that we all share as property owners on the water. We offen target "Government" & "Those Politicians," but what WE do share is the responsibility of maintaining a pristine, improved shoreline resource? Recently, SV has given us the vehicle, a method to talk, compare, evaluate, and listen. Not perfect, but a good start! LWRP is only one topic, whatever its' success or failures it does not offer the individual answers to our own particular questions. Would a Spring seminar with representatives from Town Council, Trustees, LWRP administrators, County Government, State Legislators and representatives from the DEC. be an appropiate dialog? With enough notice and planning, a negative reponse to our invitation would be unacceptable. The question would be: DO WE HAVE SOUTHOLD RESIDENTS, MEMBERS OF SV, INTERESTED in attending a seminar? Sign in, SHOUT, let us know!, Write, Email, tell your neighbors give us the indication that it could be a successful well attended event!

Thanks, Doug Rose Sr. Board Member, SoutholdVOICE

Thank you for the enlightening (if not frightening) summary on the LWRP. This raises several questions regarding conforming (i.e. permitted) structures:

1) If you have a permit in place for a structure that is damaged by a storm, can the repair be performed without trustee involvement or is is a trustee (administrative) permit required?

2) I understand that permits [can] have an expiration date. When a permit expires, does this mean that repairs to the structure governed by the original permit would require a new permit application? If this is true, does this mean the owner should apply for a permit renewal (in advance of the expiration) to facilitate timely repairs in the event of future storm related damage? (the permit application cycle can typically take a year)

3) In the LWRP context, if a conforming structure has an expired permit, does that re-classify the structure as non-conforming?
