NYS Fishing License not required BUT, National Saltwater Angler Registry IS!

January 4, 2010 by John Kramer · 1 Comment

New York State backed off the license requirements as a direct result of the actions of our Trustees and those of the other East End towns, but, you are required to have a Federal Registration card to fish for Striped Bass or fish in Federal waters from 3-200 miles offshore. Registration is free (this year) and can be done online at www.countmyfish.noaa.gov

If you have a commercial license or only fish on charter boats, you don’t need to register, but if you are like most of us, they say you are required to have this National Saltwater Angler Registry Card. I completed the form online and you can see that it is going to cost something next time, because there is a expiration date on the card, one year from now. And don’t forget that you MUST wear a PFD if on a boat under 21 ft, between Nov 1st and May 1st!

According to an article in the Cape Cod Times today regarding Saltwater Fishng licenses: “The federal fishing license is free this year, but will cost $25 next year.” Interesting.
