    Case Study

(The names and political positions of each candidate does not matter, what matters is how important your vote can be!)

In 2007, four Councilmen were running for 2 positions.

1st Councilman Candidate won with 3,889 Votes (27.82%)

    2nd Councilman Candidate won with 3,732 Votes (26.70 %)

3rd Councilman Candidate lost with 3,206 Votes (22.94%)

    4th Councilman Candidate lost with 3,150 Votes (22.54 %)

With an addition of only 527 votes, Candidate # 3 would be on the Town Council today!

According to the 2000 US census, and the Town of Southold LWRP document, the town of Southold had 13,769 dwelling units.  Of these, 13,729 units (34%) were second homeowners, which equals 4,681 households. If 75% of these households are couples, this equals 8,192 votes! – which are SECOND HOMEOWNERS who DO NOT have a voice in how their hard earned tax dollars are spent.
