Lawn weed and feed ain’t good for clams and fish

We all know that we don’t want to fertilize and apply grub and weed control on our lawns near the beach as it goes right into the water. But here is something else to consider: Your front lawn treatment needs to stay on the lawn and out of the street because the STORM DRAIN probably goes directly into the creek or bay! Here is a picture I took after someone used a broadcast spreader on the front lawn. See the yellow in the road covering about 6′ of street? About 20′ away is a drain that dumps right into the creek! Not a good thing….last nights rain cleaned the street and now our fish, clams and terrapin have this to contend with.

Scotts now makes a spreader that has an adjustable piece to block spreading fertilizer to a side of the spreader aligned with the road or a garden etc. It’s very easy to use and you keep the fertilizer on the lawn not wasted in the street.
