PEP Talk nets $10,000 for East Marion project

Thirteen months ago, April 2009, we first reported on the Peconic Estuary Program initiative for Hashamomuck Pond. A Fall update followed, and now PEP has awarded the Gardiners Bay Estates Homeowners Association a $10,000 grant to restore Spring Pond. The objective is to stop the first 45 minutes of storm runoff, which contains most of the bacteria we need to keep out of the water. The Peconic Estuary Program (PEP) has invited Hashamomuck Pond watershed property owners to a meeting Tuesday April 7th 6pm for briefing on the ecosystem and planned stormwater reduction projects, including steps you can take around your home. Southold VOICE announces a new campaign in collaboration with the Town of Southold. Permanent aluminum medallions are being affixed to selected roadside drains throughout the town as a reminder to all citizens that fertilizers and toxins should not be allowed in the drains. Can you help?
