Including footage shot over more than a year, this short documentary video (less than 5 minutes) touches only briefly on the long 8 year battle waged by Lynn Laskos and the Hashamomuck Cove Group to save their homes and raise awareness of the threat to County Road 48. It’s a race against time, so what are the options? This story really deserves an hour long documentary to explore the science and government challenges in depth, but it does include footage from before the Nor’easter, in the immediate aftermath and updated as recent as this last weekend, October 16th 2011. Coastal Erosion Meeting Feb 16th 2011

Nervous wait continues as storms keep marching east. The Coastal Erosion Meeting by government officials hosted about 80 members of the public. The purpose of the meeting was to explore both short term and long term solutions to the coastal erosion happening on Long Island Sound. Attendees from Government included Legislator Ed Romaine, Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell and Southold Town Trustee Bob Ghosio, each familiar with the issues and actively involved in trying to resolve problems for some time. Representing the Army Corp of Engineers were Roman G Rakoczy and Nathanael T. Wales.

New Meeting Details: Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 10am, Peconic Rec Center. PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE AND TIME. Realistic expectations for a solution to our erosion challenge will be the focus of Supervisor Scott Russell’s agenda at a meeting at Southold Town Hall on Feb 2nd at 1pm, especially along Route 48 and the LI Sound area . Representatives from the Army Corps of Engineers, the DEC and the Suffolk County DPW will be in attendance together with Legislator Ed Romaine and town officials.
