County Road 48 Washout – CALL TO ACTION – the fight continues

On February 6th of this year, SoutholdVOICE published an article and video entitled:  “County Road 48 Washout – the last 17 feet” The problem and the fight continues… The Hashamomuck Cove Group, lead by SoutholdVOICE Member Lynn Laskos, continues to fight the fight on beach erosion.  As you might know, the Section 905B Reconnaissance study was completed.  ALL the commitments/monies needed from all levels of government to go into Feasibility Stage are in place except for the STATE!

We need the State to hear us!

County Legislator Edward Romaine has been fighting this battle since the very first day (read his most recent letter); Legislator Romaine is holding a press conference on the beach at Hashamomuck Cove and inviting all levels of government, DEC, Army Corp of Engineers and press to attend . Your support is needed, please come out on September 22 at 2PM to support Ed in obtaining State funding.  This affects each and every sound and waterfront property owner. Please tell your neighbors.

Yesterday, Sept 9th, seemed to be a nice September day! Not here at Hashamomuck Cove, Southold NY.  Look at the photos below that Lynn took herself and the time stamp is correct, around 11.30am or so. The Long Island Sound continues to pound their houses and bulkheads; only a matter of time till County Road 48 gets washed away.  County Road 48 is less than 17 feet away.   The cove is a wall of water!  We need State support and funding NOW to continue into our Feasibility Study with the Army Corps of Engineers.

Does the road have to wash out before the State helps?
