What qualifications does each candidate have to make decisions on how waterfront property owners can protect their property? Would they be willing to consider professional recommendations as they relate to various applications/permitting processes that may or may not conform to the existing policies?

Under California’s “prescriptive rights” or “implied dedication” doctrine, if the public regularly traverses an area of private property for a period of at least five years, the public may obtain a permanent “right” to continued use of that area, even without the landowner’s consent.

Beware of Open Space Next to You?

The Town Board’s purchase of open space throughout the Town of Southold have been overwhelmingly supported by the community. However, when land next to your house or in close proximity to your neighborhood is considered for acquisition by the Town for open space, the surrounding property owners must weigh the benefit of the open space with the detriment which comes from the intrusion into your privacy by the public use of the open space. Recently, intrusion into your private use has expanded. Attorney Pat Moore explains it all here.

Coastal Erosion Meeting Feb 16th 2011

Nervous wait continues as storms keep marching east. The Coastal Erosion Meeting by government officials hosted about 80 members of the public. The purpose of the meeting was to explore both short term and long term solutions to the coastal erosion happening on Long Island Sound. Attendees from Government included Legislator Ed Romaine, Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell and Southold Town Trustee Bob Ghosio, each familiar with the issues and actively involved in trying to resolve problems for some time. Representing the Army Corp of Engineers were Roman G Rakoczy and Nathanael T. Wales.
Citizens ask the Town to use their SMEM brain

We were invited to present our #Get SMEMsmart project (Social Media Emergency Management) to the six Board Members of the town of Southold today ( Feb 15th). It was an informal work session, round table discussion, with pen and paper, no internet connection, except for a smart phone, which as a practical matter could not be used as a demo tool without amplification to a large screen. Basic, simple, friendly, but difficult to engage participants of mixed knowledge and experience in matters of social media on the internet without access to a live stream. Read more here.
